Robin Williams' son, Zak Williams, has paid an emotional tribute to the late actor on what would have been his 73rd birthday. The year marks a decade since the Mrs Doubtfire star died by suicide at age 63 in 2014.
Taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Zak, 41, shared a black-and-white image of his father smiling in front of a collection of puppets. In the caption, he wrote: 'Dad, on what would be your 73rd birthday, I remember you for all the hope and joy you brought to the world.'
'There's not a week that goes by without someone sharing with me how you helped them through a dark time or a rough patch. I'm so grateful to be your son. Love you forever,' he added.
In the months leading up to his death, Williams had been struggling with health issues after being misdiagnosed with Parkinson's disease. An autopsy later revealed he had Lewy body dementia, an incurable brain disease.
Williams is survived by his three children—Zak, Zelda, 34, and Cody, 32—and his third wife, Susan Schneider Williams. In the 2020 documentary Robin's Wish, Schneider Williams said: 'My husband had unknowingly been battling a deadly disease. Nearly every region of his brain was under attack – he experienced himself disintegrating.'
