Richard Keys Opens Up About Controversial Marriage and Future Family Plans
Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has publicly addressed the intense scrutiny surrounding his relationship with his second wife, Lucie Rose, who is 31 years his junior. In a candid interview with The Telegraph, the 68-year-old broadcaster dismissed his reputation as a "love rat" as "nonsense" and shared his aspirations to expand his family further.
Defending His Relationship and Addressing Past Allegations
Keys' first marriage to Julia ended in divorce in 2016 after 34 years, amidst allegations of an affair with Lucie, a lawyer. Julia was recovering from thyroid cancer at the time, and she previously stated that the split "didn't just devastate my world, but the world of our children Jemma and Josh, too." In response, Keys clarified the timeline, emphasizing that he did not "leave Julia dying of cancer, or suffering with cancer." He explained, "Sadly, she had cancer in 2008 and 2009, and we ran into a genius surgeon who removed it."
He also refuted claims that Lucie was his daughter Jemma's best friend during the alleged affair, noting instead that the two women had socialised together while living in Doha. "What's damaging is that people presume I ran away with my daughter's best mate, locked her in a room, and gave her no choice about whether she wanted to be with me or not," Keys said. "All of which is nonsense."
On the Age Gap and Future Fatherhood Aspirations
Addressing the significant age difference with his wife, Keys admitted, "It baffles people, but I don't feel it. I never have." He expressed a strong desire to have more children, stating, "If something of that nature happened, I would be a very, very happy man." Reflecting on his perspective, he added, "I've looked around at men my age who have entered the fatherhood phase for a second time, and they all seem to be a lot more relaxed. They're more understanding of the role they have."
Keys concluded by sharing his belief that younger fathers often lack time due to career pressures, whereas he now has "plenty of time" to dedicate to parenting. This revelation highlights his personal growth and changing priorities as he navigates life with his second wife.
