Punk Icon Soo Catwoman Dies Aged 70

Soo Catwoman, the punk and fashion icon whose real name was Susan Lucas, has died at the age of 70 after falling into a coma. She was closely linked with the Sex Pistols and once lived with bassist Sid Vicious.

Her children Shem and Dion Lucas announced her death, stating that she “recently fell ill and was taken to hospital, and shortly after fell into a coma, which she sadly never awoke from.” They confirmed she died on Tuesday, September 30, “surrounded by her family and loved ones.”

In a tribute, her children described her as “a very kind and caring individual who helped and cared for countless people” and “a champion of the underdog.” They noted she “pushed forward the frontiers of fashion with her handmade clothing accessories, her striking makeup and of course her signature ‘Soo Catwoman’ hairstyle.”

Soo Catwoman was depicted by Iris Law, daughter of actor Jude Law, in Danny Boyle’s 2022 Sex Pistols drama series based on guitarist Steve Jones’ memoir. Her family said she lived in “silent dignity” and “never sought to capitalize on her fame,” choosing instead to raise her children.

A GoFundMe appeal has been set up to cover funeral costs and potentially establish a permanent memorial. Her children explained that because she “cared so much for other people,” she did not amass personal wealth.
