Trooping the Colour is one of the rare occasions when fans of the Royal Family get to see the royals gathered together in one place. Many are often particularly interested in catching sight of the Prince and Princess of Wales' three children, who will one day step up to lead the Royal Family into the future.
Balcony Appearance
As part of today's Trooping the Colour ceremony in London, the family—including King Charles and Queen Camilla, as well as Prince William and Princess Kate and their three children—assembled on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet throngs of supporters and well-wishers. Princess Charlotte, William and Kate's second child and only daughter, has been praised for the way she behaved during the event.
Standing at Attention
Video posted on X, formerly Twitter, shows the Princess, 11, standing at attention while members of her family chat among each other as the National Anthem begins. While the King and Queen, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their two sons, quickly stand to attention, Charlotte was notably already appropriately posed.
The user who posted the clip said: "Pay attention to the way Princess Charlotte stood at attention before everyone else in the group chatting as soon as the Anthem came on. This girl is on point with Royal etiquette and a natural at keeping her brothers in line."
Others joined in to praise the Princess. One said: "I think she's a leader." Another wrote: "A fitting future Princess Royal indeed. Great Auntie Anne must be proud." Someone else wrote: "She's ready for whatever the future may hold for her." And another user said: "Strong independent young lady. She'll be great support to Prince George."
Prince George's Height
Others were impressed by how tall Prince George, heir to the throne, has become, noting that, at just 12 years old, he is nearly the same height as his mother. One said: "Considering that Catherine is wearing heels, George must be her height now, or nearly so. Tall like his dad. What a beautiful family."
Main Character
Meanwhile, others branded Charlotte the "main character" of the event—despite it being held in celebration of King Charles' official birthday. Travelling in a carriage with her mother and brothers, Charlotte exuded confidence and ease as she waved and smiled at the crowds gathered to spot her and her family, even when other members of her family didn't.
Princess Charlotte wore a simple white dress with short sleeves, while her brothers wore sharp suits, ensuring they were well-dressed for the special occasion.
Someone took to X to write: "Princess Charlotte is out there being the Main Character." Another responded: "I just know how the children are always well groomed, appropriately attired and presented in all situations, ceremonial, formal or informal."
Resemblance to Queen Elizabeth II
Princess Charlotte is often also said to bear a strong resemblance to her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Royal commentator Phil Dampier told the Daily Express: "She is growing up fast and reminds me of Princess Anne as she's a strong character and able to tell her brothers what to do."
Reflecting on her likeness to the late monarch, he added: "Winston Churchill once said of the late Queen Elizabeth when she was a child that he had never seen such maturity in someone so young, and Charlotte seems to have inherited that trait from her great-grandmother, to whom she bears an uncanny resemblance."
