Prince Harry has been given a new three-word nickname after making a solo appearance without Meghan Markle. The Duke of Sussex spent a weekend away from Montecito, California, attending the Warrior Games in Texas, where fans dubbed him the 'people's prince'.
Solo Trip to Texas
The Duke of Sussex participated in Day Two of the Warrior Games in Texas on Sunday, just hours after attending an NBA final on Saturday. His wife, Meghan Markle, remained in Montecito, California. The Warrior Games hold special significance for Harry, as the adaptive sports competition for wounded, ill, and injured US service members and veterans inspired him to create the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014.
BBQ and Medal Presentation
During the event, Harry was seen serving BBQ food prepared by United Airlines to competitors, their families, and staff. He also presented medals to the winners, met several veterans, and took selfies with attendees. The prince's appearance was widely praised on social media.
Fan Reactions
Fans quickly crowned Harry the 'people's prince' online. One user on X wrote: 'The People's Prince! The Duke of Sussex at the Warrior Games 2026, San Antonio, Texas.' Another agreed, saying: 'The people's prince indeed.' A third commented: 'The People's, Prince Harry, joined the Warrior Games Family to serve barbecue meals to Veterans and their families, demonstrating his support and dedication to those who have served.' A fourth noted: 'Prince Harry, Princess Diana's son and heir. He got her Spencer genes, her heart and charisma. The People's Prince.' A fifth added: 'Aww, how sweet. Loved by so many. People's Prince.'
Organizers Praise Harry
The Warrior Games organizers also praised the duke. A message on social media read: 'We were honoured to have Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, out to support our wounded, ill, and injured service members during Cycling and Wheelchair Basketball. On Day 2 of the Warrior Games, he brought energy, encouragement, and support to our competitors' recovery journeys.'
The Fisher House Foundation, a charity that builds comfort homes for families of military personnel in the hospital, also commended Harry. They wrote on Instagram: 'A special lunch came with a special surprise today. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, joined the Warrior Games Family Program, serving up BBQ cooked by the @united airlines BBQ team to families, competitors and staff. More than a decade after attending his first @dowwarriorgames, Prince Harry continues to return to the event that helped inspire the creation of the @weareinvictusgames, a meaningful reminder of the lasting impact of adaptive sports and the resilience, determination, and camaraderie on display throughout the week.'
