Piers Morgan's Honest Birthday Message to Donald Trump: 'Not Always Easy Being Your Friend'
Piers Morgan's Candid Birthday Message to Donald Trump

Piers Morgan sent Donald Trump a birthday message but made an honest admission. The former Good Morning Britain presenter has had a number of run-ins with the President over the years.

A History of Clashes

The pair have clashed on a number of issues, most notably in a 2022 interview where Morgan told Trump that the 2020 Election, which the President often insists was 'rigged', was in fact 'free and fair' and that 'you lost'. Trump replied: 'Only a fool would think that.' When Piers asked if he thought he is a fool, he replied: 'I do now, yeah.'

Birthday Tribute on Instagram

Former GMB host Piers sent Trump a message on Instagram to mark his 80th birthday including a section which admitted: 'It's not always easy being your friend.' He uploaded a reel of images of them together, including the pair suited up beside Kim Kardashian, while others showed them deep in conversation.

Another image showed Piers gifting the president an Arsenal shirt with Trump on the back. Piers wrote in the post: 'Happy 80th Birthday, Donald Trump. I've known you 20 years, and can safely say you're the most unique, resilient, energetic and polarising public figure I've ever met.

'We've had our ups and downs over the years, as these photos attest, but our friendship's never been boring and I will never forget how loyal you were to me when I was (temporarily) sent packing from America in 2014 and you were one of the few people across the pond to stay in touch when I was of no use to you.

'It's not always easy being your friend, but then people say the same about me. Enjoy your big day, Mr President!'

An Interview That Almost Fell Apart

With both men not shy of saying it how they feel, the duo have butted heads, with Piers' interview for his own show recently descending into chaos. The pair sat down face to face last year, but Donald was far from happy with his pal. Piers revealed exactly how the interview got off on the wrong foot.

He disclosed that just before sitting down with the businessman that he discovered the US president had received a file containing every critical comment Piers had made about him. Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Piers remembered: 'Donald Trump was basically losing his s**t at me.

'He was reading it out slowly: 'Did you call me a mob boss? Did you say, Trump should never be allowed to run for office again? How could you do this to me, my apprentice?''

But thinking on his feet, Piers also remembered some good angles for which he could base his interview to get the president back on board. He explained: 'I said to him, 'I want to talk about some positive things too.' And he said, 'Like what?' And I said, 'Your hole in one. Everyone's talking about it.'

Piers went on and reeled off the details of a recent interview with Ernie Els that he'd read. In it, the former World No. 1 stated that Trump's lucky shot was one of the best he'd ever seen, describing him as 'the best presidential golfer he had ever played with'.

Following that, Piers confessed: 'Trump's whole demeanour changed immediately. He said, 'All right, let's do the interview.' So I was saved by Ernie.'
