Former TOWIE star Pete Wicks has admitted he was distinctly underwhelmed during his recent visit to Buckingham Palace, comparing the historic residence to a branch of Nando's. Speaking on the Staying Relevant podcast alongside friend Sam Thompson, the reality TV personality shared his candid thoughts about the 320-year-old landmark.
Pete's Palace Disappointment
Pete explained that he attended the royal event after a day of filming with the Dogs' Trust, a charity he serves as an ambassador for. He had changed into his suit and tie “in a kennel” before rushing across London on what he described as the “hottest day of the year.” However, upon arrival, he found himself confined to public areas that failed to impress.
The toilets were a particular letdown. “When you go to the toilets, there's f*****g urinals. It's like a f*****g nightclub p****r,” he complained. “It's just a public urinal, it's no different than Nando's. I can't get that excited about it.” Despite Sam's suggestion that he might have pocketed a souvenir, Pete dismissed the idea, adding that the event itself mattered more than the venue. He downplayed the palace's historic significance, stating, “It doesn't interest me that much, it's just a big house.”
Sam's Royal Encounter
Sam, meanwhile, shared his own nerve-wracking experience with royalty. After being introduced to Queen Camilla at a red-carpet event, he struggled to make conversation. “I lied to the Queen,” he admitted. Desperate to engage her, he started talking about air purifiers, but she quickly moved on. In a panic, he blurted out that purple—the colour of her dress—was his favourite colour, hoping she would linger. “I wanted to pay her a compliment, but she was already moving off,” he recalled.
Sam confessed he had to resist grabbing her arm. “I managed to stop myself a good 10 centimetres short. I just sort of reikied her from the side. She did like me, I think,” he concluded.
