Pete Davidson has revealed how fatherhood has transformed him from a laid-back comedian into an overprotective father, describing his new instincts as “primal”. The 32-year-old former Saturday Night Live star and his girlfriend Elsie Hewitt welcomed their daughter Scottie Rose in December.
In an interview with People, Davidson said he was surprised by the urge to defend his child. “You’re just ready to fight anyone. It’s really funny,” he said. “If one paparazzi guy pops out I’m going to f***ing beat the living s*** out of him. So that’s a weird gear because I’m not a fighter guy.”
He added: “You develop this like, ‘Is that person looking at my baby? What are you looking at?’ You’re very, very hyper aware. But I guess that goes back to caveman times, you know? It’s very… what do they say? It’s like primal?”
Despite the protective instincts, Davidson said he is mostly enjoying the “cute stuff” of fatherhood, including dressing his daughter in baby clothes. The comedian had previously said in 2022 that becoming a father was his ultimate dream, calling himself “definitely a family guy”.
Davidson and Hewitt, 30, announced their relationship and pregnancy last year. Hewitt joked on Instagram: “welp now everyone knows we had sex.” Davidson earlier expressed guilt over the attention his fame brought to Hewitt’s pregnancy, saying on a radio show: “I feel so guilty and horrible that I could not allow her to have the ideal pregnancy that almost every woman gets to have and enjoy.”
Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson was born on 12 December. Hewitt announced the birth on Instagram with a carousel of pictures, captioning it: “My best work yet, I am absolutely overflowing with love and gratitude and disbelief.” Davidson added: “Wu tang forever.”
