Jake Paul has claimed he was 'hacked' after facing backlash for his criticism of Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show. The YouTuber-turned-boxer, 29, initially urged fans to boycott the performance, calling Bad Bunny a 'fake citizen who hates America'.
However, critics quickly labelled Paul a 'hypocrite', noting that he and his brother Logan moved to Puerto Rico in 2021 to benefit from the island's tax exemptions under Act 60. Paul owns a $16 million mansion in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
After the backlash, Paul attempted to backtrack, posting on X: 'Guys I love Bad Bunny idk what happened on my Twitter last night? Wtf.' He suggested his account had been hacked, but many fans were sceptical, with one commenting: 'Jake lost some brand deals and is in panic mode.'
Another user wrote: 'Worried you're gonna get kicked out of your tax haven? You're a clown wearing PR patches and using PR when it benefits you.' Paul later doubled down on his views, clarifying he considered Bad Bunny 'fake' due to his values, not his citizenship.
Bad Bunny's Spanish-language performance divided viewers, with some praising it as a positive representation of Hispanic culture, while others complained it was not reflective of US culture.
