Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne's 'Back To The Beginning' farewell concert has raised a significant amount for charity, according to music director Tom Morello. The Rage Against The Machine guitarist claimed on Instagram that over $190 million would be donated to children's hospitals and hospices, though LiveNation has disputed this figure.
The event, held at Villa Park in Birmingham, saw all proceeds split equally among Cure Parkinson's, Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Acom Children's Hospice. A LiveNation spokesperson told NME that the reported charity figures are false, with Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne expected to announce the correct amount in due course.
Morello wrote: 'We raised a ton of money for a great cause and so many great musicians & bands & fans all over the world paid tribute to the ALL TIME greats.' The show featured performances by Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, and many others, with Black Sabbath playing a four-song set including 'Paranoid', which Osbourne called 'the last song ever'.
Osbourne's solo set included 'I Don't Know' and 'Crazy Train', while a drum-off between Danny Carey, Travis Barker, and Chad Smith covered 'Symptom Of The Universe'. The event also saw supergroup covers of Led Zeppelin and 'Changes', dedicated to the late footballer Diogo Jota.
