Ore Oduba's son has been forced to leave his private school part way through the current term due to the spiraling costs of his parents' divorce. The Strictly Come Dancing winner, 40, and his wife Portia Jett, 36, confirmed their separation in 2024 after nine years of marriage, and the financial strain has led them to move their eight-year-old son to a new school.
Emotional First Day at New School
On Monday, Portia shared a photo on Instagram of herself hugging her son before his first day at a new school, expressing her sadness over the change. She captioned the post: 'I haven't got this, but you have. First day at a new school and I couldn't be prouder of how he's handled all the changes. Let's do this.'
In her Instagram Stories, she described the emotional drop-off: 'Just dropped him off. He got really upset. God as a parent nothing prepares you for holding it together, smiling, being strong, supportive and saying all the right things whilst all you want to do is cry too.' She added that it was just first-day nerves and that she knew he would be fine.
Update After First Day
Portia later shared an update, relieved that her son had a good first day. 'His teacher said he was a little shy but made friends and did really well. So I'm happy.. tomorrow we go again,' she told her followers.
Divorce and Financial Impact
The school change comes after Portia and Ore went their separate ways. They married in 2015 but ended things and were forced to sell their home. Ore recently revealed that his addiction to porn 'destroyed' his life and cost him thousands of pounds. Portia has also shared how the turmoil has affected her physically and mentally, especially leaving behind her support network of mum friends.
She said: 'I've just been feeling really anxious this week. My stomach has been all over the place. It's Roman's last week of school and I don't really like change, especially when it comes to the kids.' The couple also share a four-year-old daughter, Genie.
