Thousands of nude cyclists descended on London's streets for the annual World Naked Bike Ride, leaving shocked onlookers across the capital with an eyeful. On Sunday, a horde of bike riders took to the streets in nothing but their birthday suits, touring the capital in a peaceful, legal public protest with a serious message.
Event Details and Purpose
The raunchy ride aims to raise awareness of oil dependency, excess car usage, and highlight body positivity. Riders gathered at several meeting points before converging at Westminster Bridge to form a singular swarm of nakedness. Despite calls for the event to be banned, starkers bikers peddled without their pants, claiming it as a peaceful protest.
Public Reactions
Many Londoners were unhappy as the cheeky event disrupted their travel plans. One person ranted on X: "The naked cycle or the naked bike ride in London is so messed up. You know some of them are getting off being naked in public. We didn't consent to seeing old cocks and vaginas on our streets." Another wrote: "Walking down the Strand when about 1,000 people naked riding bikes - mostly middle aged men. One absolute weapon in his 60s wearing a crown walking down the road with his tiny todger out." A third added: "Bus was held up for ages by vast horde of naked cycling. Immediate observations; it's never, never the ones you'd want, it's always 'for charity' or a protest but clearly these people are exhibitionists, [and] stop stripping off in front of children for the love of God."
Organiser's Statement
A spokesman for World Naked Bike Ride said: "Our body positivity/body acceptance theme is all about having a sensible attitude to the human body instead of suffering from the angst of body image and peer pressure for abnormal sexual activity." He added: "We all have bodies, we are all different, and that's OK."
Safety and History
Despite stripping down to their birthday suits, many riders remembered to stay safe by opting to wear helmets during the annual ride. The event has been a fixture in London for more than 20 years, with the first World Naked Bike Ride starting in 2004 in Zaragoza, Spain. Every year, organisers share their plans with the Met Police, including detailed routes and instructions given to riders to avoid inappropriate behaviour.

An estimated 1,200 riders took part in the World Naked Bike Ride on Sunday. Some nude riders chose to cover their faces during the ride. Despite leaving their clothes at home, one rider made sure to show up with a Union Jack face mask. Both men and women flocked to the events, with ladies freeing the nip and men letting it hang out at the 'body-positive bike race'.
