Natasha Lyonne Shares Positive Sobriety Update After Relapse

Natasha Lyonne has provided a promising update on her health, two months after revealing she had relapsed following a decade of sobriety. The 46-year-old actor, known for her roles in Poker Face and Orange Is the New Black, took to X on Thursday to express gratitude for the support she has received.

“Proud to report this kid is doing a whole lot better & back on her feet. Want to thank our recovery communities & the fans who stood by & were so supportive,” Lyonne wrote. She added that she aims to keep her journey “somehow private” but looks forward to sharing her experience, strength and hope when appropriate.

In January, Lyonne disclosed her relapse on X, stating she would regain her sobriety “for baby Bamboo,” referring to the forthcoming boxing movie she is set to write, direct and produce. She has been open about her past struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, particularly heroin.

Reflecting on her troubled past in a 2023 interview with The Independent, Lyonne said she was “seduced by that Kerouac fantasy of dropping out of life,” which was a euphemism for her junkie years. After getting sober, she underwent open-heart surgery in 2012 to correct damage from a serious heart infection caused by her drug use.

Lyonne’s latest posts emphasise the ongoing nature of recovery, writing: “Recovery is a lifelong process. Anyone out there struggling, remember you’re not alone.” She encouraged honesty, stating, “Sick as our secrets,” and urged followers to “keep going” and “wallpaper your mind with love.”
