Naga Munchetty's BBC Breakfast absence explained by holiday snaps

BBC Breakfast fans have been left wondering when Naga Munchetty will be back on their screens. After noticing the presenter's recent absence from the morning programme, one viewer took to social media to ask: "When are you back on telly?" Meanwhile another admitted they had been wondering why Naga wasn't presenting the flagship news programme.

Holiday snaps from Inverness

Naga, who has been a familiar face on the BBC programme for years, recently gave fans an insight into what she has been up to away from the red sofa. The presenter shared a series of holiday snaps from Inverness on Instagram, appearing to make the most of some time off.

Alongside pictures from her trip, Naga wrote: "My happy place. Friends, giggles and golf (of course). Haste ye back #castlestuartgolflinks." Her post quickly attracted comments from followers, with one writing: "Hope you're having a lovely time, wondered why you weren't on Breakfast." Another fan said: "Love that course, enjoy," while a third asked: "Looks amazing! When are you back on telly?"

Major career change ahead

Naga's latest break comes as she prepares for a major change in her BBC career. The presenter announced earlier this year that she would be leaving BBC Breakfast after 17 years to take over the breakfast show on BBC Radio 5 Live. She is expected to make her final appearance on Breakfast in December before beginning her new role in January 2027.

Naga will take over from current presenters Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards, having already spent several years presenting the mid-morning programme on Radio 5 Live. Speaking about the move, Naga appeared alongside Rachel and Rick on the station to discuss the decision. "It is exciting news, it is exciting news. A change is... they say a change is as good as a rest, don't they," she said.

Praise for audiences

Naga went on to praise the audiences she has worked with during her time at both BBC Breakfast and Radio 5 Live. She said: "And I think, Rachel, you put it really well. The audience we serve is brilliant and honest and kind and engaged." Naga added that she felt the time was right for something new after several years working across the BBC's programmes. "Obviously, as well on BBC Breakfast, and it's just time for a new challenge," she explained.

For now, however, it appears Naga is enjoying some downtime before her next chapter begins, with her latest Instagram post giving fans a glimpse of her golf-filled getaway. BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
