Minnie Driver is set to make her debut in the upcoming fifth season of Netflix's 'Emily in Paris', but the 55-year-old actress was not born with the name she uses today. Born Amelia Fiona J. Driver on January 31, 1970, she adopted the nickname 'Minnie' given to her by her older sister, Kate. Driver explained, 'Well, I was never going to be an Amelia, was I?'
In the new season, Driver plays Princess Jane, a friend of Sylvie's who married into royalty. She shared her excitement on Instagram in May, posting photos from Rome where the season was filmed. Driver wrote, 'I am BEYOND thrilled to be joining this sensational cast and show,' and revealed a personal connection with lead actress Lily Collins, having known her since she was 11, as Driver played Jane in the 1999 Disney film 'Tarzan', for which Collins' father, Phil Collins, wrote the soundtrack.
Driver told Variety she accepted the role because 'the writing was really great' and she relates to her character, describing her as 'funny' and a 'survivor'. At the Paris premiere on December 15, she walked the red carpet with her fiancé, filmmaker Addison O'Dea, whom she has been dating since 2019 after they met at a mutual friend's breakfast and later bonded during the 2018 Malibu wildfires.
