Sam Thompson has expressed confidence that his girlfriend Zara McDermott will not fall victim to the so-called 'Strictly Curse', despite her infidelity four years ago. The 26-year-old former Love Island star is among the contestants for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, which launches in September.
In a recent interview on his podcast Staying Relevant, Thompson reflected on McDermott's past cheating, which occurred during her time on The X Factor: Celebrity and was revealed on Made In Chelsea. The couple briefly split in 2020 after the revelation but reunited months later following a public apology from McDermott.
Thompson said: 'She was 22… so f****** young. You know when you look at them and you go, 'She ain't going to do that again?' I could see in her face. You can just tell when someone has a beautiful heart and a beautiful soul and just f***** up.' He also admitted to having been unfaithful to past partners, including Tiffany Watson, but stressed he has always been loyal to McDermott.
McDermott is the first Love Island contestant to appear on the BBC show. Producers believe her inclusion will attract a younger audience. She has fronted several documentaries for BBC Three on topics such as revenge porn and eating disorders, which resonate with her young fanbase.
