McTominay enjoys luxury Florida break after World Cup exit

Scott McTominay is making the most of his time in the United States after Scotland's World Cup campaign ended in disappointment. The SSC Napoli midfielder has extended his trip to stay at one of America's most exclusive hotels, the Breaks Palm Beach resort in Southern Florida, with his model girlfriend Cam Reading.

World Cup heartbreak for Scotland

Scotland's World Cup journey came to a heartbreaking end this weekend after two devastating defeats against Morocco and Brazil. Thousands of Tartan Army members have returned home along with many of the footballers. However, McTominay appears to be one star making the most of a bad situation.

The 29-year-old was pictured smiling in Reading's Instagram story as the couple put Scotland's loss behind them to enjoy a luxurious break. The model, who lives with McTominay in Naples, flew out to the US earlier this month to cheer him on during Scotland's three World Cup games in Boston and Southern Florida.

Luxury resort getaway

Reading shared snaps from their stay at the stunning beach-front Breaks Palm Beach resort. One image showed the historic Palm Beach hotel, which sits directly on the Atlantic Ocean and spans half a mile down the private beach. A follow-up selfie captured her smiling in the sunshine with McTominay and his parents, Frank and Julie, in the background. The footballer grinned behind his girlfriend, dressed in a striped top and a sun visor cap.

McTominay's World Cup performance

The Lancaster-born star played a vital role in Scotland qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. Fans remember his phenomenal overhead kick that sparked a 4-2 win over Denmark last November, securing Scotland's return to the tournament for the first time since 1998. However, his World Cup performance did not meet the same standard. The Tartan Army were left frustrated as he struggled to make a real impact across the three matches.

Scotland's only win

Scotland's only success came in their first match against Haiti at Boston Stadium, a 1-0 victory. John McGinn's winning goal in the 28th minute was Scotland's first World Cup goal in 36 years. It was also the only goal the team scored across all three games. As a result, manager Steve Clarke announced his resignation on Saturday evening, bidding a heartfelt farewell to Scotland. McTominay has not addressed the defeat on his public social media pages, but captain Andy Robertson paid his own special tribute to the 'gaffer'.
