Maura Higgins' Minimal Screen Time in The Spin Reportedly Wows Hollywood Insiders
Reality television star Maura Higgins, best known for her appearance on Love Island, has reportedly made a significant impression on major Hollywood executives with her performance in the new Irish comedy film The Spin. This comes despite her role being remarkably brief, with the actress appearing for less than two minutes in the movie's total runtime of one hour and thirty-two minutes.
A Feel-Good Road Movie with a Star-Studded Cast
Directed by filmmaker Michael Head, The Spin follows two music-obsessed friends, Dermot (played by Brenock O'Connor) and Elvis (portrayed by Owen Colgan), on a frantic two-day road trip across Ireland. Their mission is to save their struggling record shop in Omagh, Northern Ireland, from closure by acquiring rare vintage records of blues legend Robert Johnson in Cork.
Maura Higgins plays Rose, Dermot's onscreen girlfriend, at the beginning of the film. Her character appears in a stripped-back, natural look, a departure from her usual red-carpet-ready glamour. In her first scripted lines, she asks, 'Ah there you are, did you play already?' before shouting 'play Coldplay' during a local bar performance.
A Blink-and-You-Miss-It Cameo That Sparked Big Conversations
Despite the brevity of her appearance, sources indicate that Maura's performance caught the eye of industry insiders. Reports from last year suggest that important figures in the film industry were discussing her potential future projects. 'Everyone was talking about Maura and how great she was. She can act and people were impressed,' a source claimed, adding that conversations were taking place about her next steps.
Maura herself expressed enthusiasm about her acting debut, stating, 'The Irish are known for our storytelling, so it felt fitting that my acting debut would be in an Irish film. Being on set was an incredible experience, and I enjoyed every moment!' She acknowledged initial nerves but credited the cast and crew for helping her relax.
From Love Island to Hollywood Ambitions
Maura Higgins has leveraged her Love Island fame into a diverse career, including appearances on shows like Dancing On Ice, Cooking With The Stars, and I'm A Celebrity. She has also expanded her reach to the United States, hosting Love Island USA: Aftersun and making a glamorous debut on The Traitors US.
Her signing with Creative Arts Agency in Los Angeles last year underscores her ambitions in the American entertainment industry. Director Michael Head described The Spin as 'a feel good buddy movie that doesn't take itself too seriously,' hoping audiences enjoy it as much as the cast enjoyed making it.
The Spin is set for release in UK and Irish cinemas on February 27, marking a potential stepping stone for Maura Higgins' burgeoning acting career.
