Mary Berry Arrested at Airport Over Baking Ingredients Mistaken for Drugs

Mary Berry has revealed she was once arrested at an airport after her baking ingredients were mistaken for illicit drugs. The incident occurred 25 years ago as the former Bake Off judge was travelling to the United States for cookery demonstrations.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Berry recalled that sniffer dogs made a beeline for her upon arrival at the airport. 'Suddenly I was surrounded by uniformed people and my assistant and I were put in separate cells,' she said.

Berry had packed flour and sugar in small plastic pouches, anticipating potential issues. However, she did not expect the bags to be mistaken for illegal substances. When questioned about whether she intended to make money from the 'stuff', she replied, 'I do and my fee has already been agreed.'

The baking legend appeared on the show alongside Claudia Winkleman to promote their new BBC series, Britain's Best Home Cook. Winkleman joked that the airport incident revealed Berry's 'darker side'.
