Martel Maxwell Opens Up About Meeting Her Husband

Homes Under the Hammer star Martel Maxwell has shared the unusual story of how she met her husband, Jamie Parrat, a tale that sounds straight out of a romance novel. The 49-year-old broadcaster joined the BBC property show in 2017, taking over from Lucy Alexander, and now co-hosts alongside Martin Roberts and Dion Dublin.

Before her television career, Maxwell worked as a reporter on The One Show and ITV's Lorraine, and spent seven years as a journalist for The Sun. She also writes a regular column for the Evening Standard.

Childhood Sweethearts Reunited

Maxwell and Parrat first met when she started school at age five, and they shared their first kiss as teenagers. Reflecting on the milestone, Maxwell said: 'I had met Jamie when I started school at five and had kissed him when we were teenagers. We never really lost touch, and we met up every so often with other friends. Eventually, we were both going to a music festival, and afterwards I invited him to a party at a friend's house, and I suppose you could say we never looked back after that.'

The couple later lived together in London, married, and now have three sons: Monty, Chester, and Guthrie. They reside in a stunning open-plan home in Dundee, Scotland, featuring large windows that maximize natural light.

Balancing Family and Career

Maxwell revealed she was pregnant with her third child when she landed the presenting role on Homes Under the Hammer. She told First Time Buyer Magazine: 'They knew I had always had an interest in property and even though I was pregnant, I got the presenter's job.'

Seven years on, she still loves the role. 'It's such a great role, and I love every second of it. The team get on so well, and it has a huge following. I get stopped in the street sometimes, and people are so complimentary and are keen to tell me their stories,' she said.
