A 13-year-old girl charged with murdering a vulnerable 64-year-old man in Washington DC attacked a deputy US Marshal during a court hearing on Friday, sparking chaos in the courtroom. The teenager reportedly punched the officer, leading to her removal on a stretcher, according to Law and Crime.
The girl and two other pre-teens, aged 12 and 13, are accused of beating Reggie Brown to death on October 17, 2023, in Northwest DC. Prosecutors revealed that the group took selfies after recording the fatal attack. Brown, who was physically handicapped, died from blunt force trauma at the scene.
Detective Harry Singleton testified that a man in a blue coat initially threw Brown to the ground, after which the girls chased and attacked him. The beating occurred around 1am, and the girls appeared celebratory as they left. An autopsy confirmed homicide by blunt force trauma.
In a separate incident, the 12-year-old co-defendant was shot in the leg at her apartment on Friday, just hours before the hearing. Police are investigating whether the gunfire came from inside or outside the building. A neighbor reported hearing a loud bang and seeing two youths flee through a broken window.
All three girls, residents of Northwest DC, have been charged with second-degree murder. The motive and any connection to Brown remain unclear. Brown's niece expressed outrage, stating, 'My uncle really didn't deserve this. They have to be held accountable.'
