Mel Schilling's Final Whispered Words to Daughter Revealed by Husband

Mel Schilling, the beloved Married at First Sight star, passed away on Tuesday at age 54, surrounded by love, just weeks after revealing her terminal cancer diagnosis. Her husband, Gareth Brisbane, has shared the poignant final moments of her life, revealing that she used her remaining strength to whisper a message to their 10-year-old daughter, Maddie.

In a moving tribute, Brisbane said: 'In her final moments, when I thought cancer had taken away her ability to speak, she ushered me closer and whispered a message for Maddie and me that will sustain me for the rest of my life. It took all of her remaining strength, and that gesture summed up our wee Melsie perfectly. Even then, her only thought was for Maddie and me.'

Schilling first shared her colon cancer diagnosis with fans in December 2023. After surgery, she was given the all-clear, but in February 2024 discovered the cancer had metastasised to her lungs and later her brain over Christmas 2025. She had helmed the Australian version of MAFS for 12 seasons and the UK spin-off for five seasons, earning her reputation as the 'matriarch of MAFS'.

Off-screen, Schilling enjoyed a rich personal life. She met her husband, Gareth, on eHarmony just before turning 40 in 2011, after being single throughout her 30s. The couple married in 2020 and settled in the UK to raise their daughter. Schilling had been open about a miscarriage and undergoing IVF, calling Maddie 'one of the little eggs that was frozen for six weeks, then they popped her inside of me and boom, here she is.'

Condolences have poured in from fans and former MAFS contestants, including Vicky Pattison. Schilling's husband described her as 'an incredible mum, role model, and soulmate' to him and their daughter.
