Kate Beckinsale Gets Tattoo Tribute to Late Mother Amid Grief

Kate Beckinsale has revealed a new tattoo honouring her mother Judy Loe, who died in July at age 78. The actress shared images on Instagram showing a black-and-white portrait of her mother from the 1960s inked on her arm, below a previous tattoo reading 'Fatherless scum' in tribute to her late father and stepfather.

In a caption, Beckinsale wrote: 'If everyone would stop dying I wouldn’t have so many tattoos.' The post also included the original photograph of Loe wearing hotpants and knee-high boots, smiling with a bird on her shoulder. Beckinsale has other tattoos on the same arm, including a wolf and a tribute to her late cat Clive.

The Underworld star previously announced her mother's death in a July Instagram post, describing herself as 'paralysed with grief.' She wrote: 'She died the night of July 15th in my arms after immeasurable suffering. I am paralysed. Jude was the compass of my life, the love of my life, my dearest friend.'

Loe's death came 18 months after the passing of Beckinsale's stepfather, director Roy Battersby, in January 2024. The actress has also spoken about losing her father, actor Richard Beckinsale, to a heart attack when she was five. In March, she reflected on having 'no father figure at all' for the first time, writing: 'How horribly like home falling with no one to catch you feels.'
