Corrie's Luca Toolan: From Famous Dad to 'Crumbled' Beatles Audition
Luca Toolan's Journey from Corrie Exit to Beatles Audition

Coronation Street viewers were devastated when Mason Radcliffe met his demise in 2025, but what has actor Luca Toolan been getting up to since? The rising star burst onto the scene when he landed a role on the ITV soap in 2023 as schoolyard tormentor Mason. Following his reign of terror over Maria Connor's young lad, Liam Connor, Mason found himself locked up in a Young Offenders institution. He subsequently gained his freedom and returned to Weatherfield, determined to transform his ways and distance himself from his thuggish family, including siblings Logan and Matty. Nevertheless, in January 2025, after Mason's brothers tracked him down, disaster struck when his siblings fatally wounded Mason with a zombie knife, bringing his life to a tragic end.

Luca Toolan's Famous Dad

Away from the cameras, Luca is well-acquainted with the spotlight, courtesy of his celebrity father, Mike Toolan. Mike is a well-known radio presenter celebrated for his stint on The Hits Radio alongside former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson. The father and son duo share a close bond. Indeed, when Luca landed his Coronation Street role, he instantly called his dad to break the thrilling news. Delighted father Mike was eager to share the exciting news on air, revealing to listeners: "Luca has been unveiled as the new baddie on Coronation Street. Absolute dream come true for him." Luca frequently shares snaps with his father across social media. Back in April this year, the duo jetted off to Japan together. Luca posted numerous images from their adventure, including shots of a Sumo-wrestling bout and selfies of the father-son pair exploring the attractions.

Luca's Dream Come True

Following his departure from the soap, Luca has remained active. Just months after his character met their demise, he announced he had wrapped filming on a short movie, describing the opportunity as a "dream come true." Speaking to The Sun in October 2025, he said: "I just finished a short film, I'm loving life. This short film was a dream come true, it was a medieval short film... they built a whole set, they built me a sword from scratch. It sounds really nerdy, but for me it was so fun. And then from that I'm auditioning for film and TV, so I guess within the next six months you might start seeing me on your screens."

Luca 'Crumbled' in Audition for 'Biggest Role of My Life'

Earlier this year, Luca attended a casting for what he described as the "biggest role of my life." Unfortunately, matters didn't unfold as he had hoped. In a TikTok clip from January this year, Luca posted footage of himself travelling to an audition. "POV: Recall Audition for Paul McCartney (Beatles TV show)," was captioned on the video featuring scenes of him preparing and journeying to the casting. He said: "I've arrived, wish me luck.." In a subsequent video, Luca provided followers with an account of how things unfolded, though it didn't proceed as hoped. He openly revealed: "I went into the casting office and I'm having a conversation with the casting associate just before going into the room with the casting director. She says one thing that throws me off - 'oh you're the only Paul we're going to see today'. Head gone." He continued: "In that moment I know I'm the first Paul and I know that we're down to probably about five or six of us max. I've got a chance at landing the biggest role of my entire career, what do I do? My energy, my focus completely transfers from the process to now the outcome." Luca elaborated: "So all I care about in that moment is now okay, I have to impress the casting director, I have to do a good read, I have to make them like me. And this is applicable to anything in life, the moment you take your eyes off the process, the moment you drop the ball and your nervous system goes into loss prevention. I walk in the room, I speak to the casting director, we talk about the project do the read and it's flat. It is miles off what I did on tape and I just crumbled. I crumble."
