Love Story star Paul Anthony Kelly has infuriated woke Beyonce fans with his honest answer about her music during the Met Gala. The actor, 37, who skyrocketed to fame for his portrayal of John F Kennedy Jr on the hit show about his romance with Carolyn Bessette, attended the glitzy soiree in New York City on Monday.
Met Gala Co-Chairs and Red Carpet Question
This year's gala, known as the biggest night in fashion, was co-chaired by a superstar panel lineup featuring ex-Vogue chief Anna Wintour, Beyonce, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams. As he walked the red carpet, Kelly was asked what his favorite song by the Grammy-winning artist was, to which he replied: 'I don't know. I'm a metal head.'
Fan Backlash
His honest answer upset Beyonce's fans, who labeled him a 'basic' and 'mediocre' white man. 'Please end his career before it started I'm sick of a mediocre white man and his audacity,' one person wrote on X. 'Arrogant, basic white guy attitude. It's one thing not to know her songs which is fine but the way he said it sounds like he can't even be bothered to think for a minute,' wrote another. A third added: 'And just like that, he all of a sudden is ugly as hell.'
Responses like this are so performative. They say this [because] they have fragile masculinity or want to make a political statement,' one Beyonce fan wrote. 'Everyone knows a Beyonce song. Even if he said “the only one i know is single ladies” that’s better than acting like you don’t know any of her songs.' Another wrote: 'He literally could’ve just said… "all of em" or "every song" but no he wanted to be a hater.'
Support for Kelly
Some defended Kelly, insisting it is okay for him to not like Beyonce and have different tastes in music. 'Why are people making it out like he hates Beyonce personally,' one person wrote. 'The audacity to... *Checks notes* ... have his own taste in music???' another posted. 'Honest response. Refreshing to have a human being human. Unbothered, not praising what everyone does, not licking any boots,' another added.
Red Carpet Appearances
Kelly and his co-star, Sarah Pidgeon, stunned on the red carpet during their Met Gala reunion. Pidgeon was radiant in an eye-catching dress that comprised of yellow fabric around the bust which was styled into a bow as the material fell down her sides. A matching high-waisted skirt clung to her figure and she allowed her blonde locks to cascade past her shoulders in light waves. Kelly dressed for the occasion in a pair of black trousers as well as a dark red, tailored velvet jacket and a white shirt underneath. He additionally slipped into a pair of sleek black dress shoes and opted for a watch on his right wrist.
Meanwhile, Beyonce made her first appearance at the Met Gala in 10 years alongside her husband, Jay Z, and daughter, Blue Ivy. Beyonce's dress featured an embellished diamond skeleton. She topped off the regal look with a towering silver crown.
