Chili's has enlisted pop superstar Lizzo to revive its iconic 'Baby Back Ribs' jingle, launching a new marketing campaign on Wednesday. The Grammy and Emmy-winning singer recorded both an a cappella rendition and a remix of the famous tune, which the chain describes as 'Lizzo-fied.'
A Nostalgic Revival
The original 'I want my baby back, baby back, baby back ribs' jingle debuted in the late 1990s and quickly became one of the most recognizable restaurant ads of its era, cementing itself in pop culture through movies, TV shows, and countless parodies. Lizzo's version blends the familiar chorus with new rap verses and her own interpretation of what 'baby back, baby back' can mean.
Lizzo's Personal Touch
In one commercial, the classically trained flutist jokes that she refused to sing the tune until she heard how much Chili's was willing to pay her, then breaks into a flute solo using a novelty rib-shaped flute. Lizzo, whose new album 'B***h' is set for release June 5, has long been vocal about her love for Chili's. In a statement, the four-time Grammy winner said childhood weekend trips to the chain made the collaboration especially meaningful.
'You may have even seen me dress up as a Fried Mozzarella cheese pull on Halloween — so when they reached out about collaborating, I couldn't say yes fast enough,' Lizzo said, referring to her 2025 costume. 'I don't think there's a more memorable jingle, so when putting my own spin on it, I really wanted to honor that history while also making it feel fun and very me.'
Enhanced Ribs Offering
The campaign arrives after Chili's recently upgraded its Baby Back Ribs, which now feature meatier full and half-rack portions with up to 50 percent more meat and a new caramelized barbecue sauce crust, according to the chain.
