The Light in the Hall season two is premiering tonight with stars from Emmerdale, Chernobyl and Unforgotten. Over three years have passed since The Light in the Hall, known in Wales as Y Golau, last graced Channel 4, centring on a mother still mourning her daughter's killing. On this occasion, The Light in the Hall will explore a completely fresh storyline set in the fictional Welsh town of Llanemlyn with an entirely different cast, save for one returning character.

Caryl - Sian Reese-Williams
While The Light in the Hall series two centres on fresh material, Caryl Huws from the opening run makes her comeback, now pursuing a career in journalism. The character is portrayed by actress Sian Reese-Williams, whom soap enthusiasts will instantly recall as Gennie Walker in ITV's Emmerdale from 2008 to 2013. Reese-Williams has appeared in Hidden, Wolf, Line of Duty and portrayed the victim's mother in Channel 5's drama Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards.
Rhys Owen - Mark Lewis Jones
Rhys served two decades behind bars following his activist cousin Llyr's death in a 1995 bombing, though he's consistently maintained his innocence. After completing his sentence, Rhys heads back to his hometown, which now confronts fresh reservoir expansion demonstrations. The role of Rhys goes to actor Mark Lewis Jones, known for the Welsh drama Keeping Faith, alongside Chernobyl, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Crown, Baby Reindeer and Gangs of London.
Eve Davies - Nia Roberts
Eve is Caryl's journalism mentor who motivates her to uncover a story she feels genuinely passionate about pursuing. She was also the romantic partner of Llyr prior to his death and shares a child with him. Actress Nia Roberts is recognised for portraying Linda Jenkins in Bang, Elin Jones in Hidden and Della in the Welsh drama Yr Amgueddfa, which translates as The Museum.
Robert Davies - Robert Glenister
Robert Davies is not merely the chief of Greenforge, the organisation behind the reservoir expansion plans that Llyr campaigned against during the 1990s, but he is also Eve's father, making the circumstances considerably more complex. Actor Robert Glenister is well known for playing Ash "Three Socks" Morgan in the crime drama Hustle, Nicholas Blake in spy series Spooks and Kevin Salisbury in Sherwood. He is additionally the brother of fellow actor Philip Glenister, best recognised for Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, State of Play and Outcast.
Mabli Davies Owen - Maeve Courtier-Lilley
Mabli, Eve's daughter and consequently Robert's granddaughter, plays a pivotal role in the campaign opposing the dam. Actress Maeve Courtier-Lilley has appeared in The Red King, The Outpost, Christmas film Champagne Problems and most recently, Netflix and Harlan Coben's Run Away.
Harri Breckon - Tom Rhys Harries
Mabli's companion and fellow environmentally-conscious activist Hari Breckon is brought to life by actor Tom Rhys Harries. He has featured in productions including Unforgotten, Suspicion, White Lines, Suspicion and The Gentlemen. Harries is also set to take on the lead role of Matt Hagen in the forthcoming DC Comics horror film Clayface, due out later this year.
Gareth Breckon - Matthew Gravelle
Gareth is Harri's father, torn between deep community divisions as well as the rift within his own family as opposition to the dam intensifies. Actor Matthew Gravelle is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Joe Miller in ITV's Broadchurch. Among his other roles are appearances in History Channel's The Bible, The Archers, Mudtown and Itopia.
