Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the world’s most recognisable actors, has reportedly managed to evade detection for most of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The 51-year-old star, a regular at the French event, typically stays on luxury superyachts or high-end suites to maintain a low profile, but this year he appears to have excelled himself, with few sightings reported as the two-week festival draws to a close.
However, a bartender at the Hotel Martinez, a famous celebrity haunt and key filming location for the new season of HBO’s The White Lotus, told the Mirror that DiCaprio visited the hotel’s speakeasy-style bar a few days ago. “He was sitting in a corner with a couple of very beautiful women. They were deep in conversation as they enjoyed some drinks and he was clearly having a great time,” the bartender said, adding that DiCaprio is “low-key” but “a big character” who shared laughs with staff.
DiCaprio, who has been dating Italian supermodel Vittoria Ceretti since 2023, is known for using disguises such as baseball caps, hoodies, and sunglasses to avoid paparazzi. He is rumoured to be attending a Time magazine event on Wednesday night called “Bee Wise: Bring the Bees Back”, which would align with his long-standing environmental activism. The actor has dedicated over $100 million in grants to fight climate change and protect biodiversity.
DiCaprio has spent the spring filming in the Czech Republic for Martin Scorsese’s upcoming thriller What Happens at Night, co-starring Jennifer Lawrence. The Apple Original film follows a married American couple travelling to a snowy European location to adopt a baby.
