Simon Cowell's partner, Lauren Silverman, has candidly discussed the controversial early days of her romance with the music mogul, which began while she was still married to his close friend.
Lauren Opens Up About Her Divorce
The 48-year-old mother of two spoke about the intense scrutiny she faced when she split from her husband, Andrew Silverman, and went public with her relationship with the Britain's Got Talent judge, who had been a family friend.
Despite falling pregnant with Simon's son while still married, Lauren insists she holds no regrets. Speaking to Giovanna Fletcher on her Happy Mum podcast, Lauren revealed: "It's hard because it was like, there's so many emotions that went with that because it was like the end of my marriage, obviously. And I, you know, looking back on that time, it was like, it was one of the hardest times of my life because I'm so… I don't want to say regretful because I don't regret anything."
No Regrets, But Wishes for a Different Path
Lauren added: "And everything happens in your life for a reason. And I'm a firm believer in that, so, do I wish that it had happened a different way and that I could go back and change certain things? Of course I do."
Lauren discovered she was pregnant with their son Eric after an affair with the record executive 12 years ago. At the time, she was married to her husband of 10 years, Andrew Silverman, who was Simon's good friend.
Struggling Through the Public Scrutiny
She admits she couldn't fully enjoy her pregnancy due to the public scrutiny. "I was just trying to get through it and just try to like wake up every day and not, I don't know, fall apart," she said.
Despite the heartache on both sides, Lauren believes her relationship with Simon was "meant to be." She continued: "I knew that Simon was the person that I wanted to spend my life with. And so however we got there and however it happened, I just believe that it was meant to be. And like I said, as much as I wish I could go back and take away the hurt and take away the pain that that caused for, you know, my ex-husband and for Adam and for my family and for various people. It happened and, you know, but so the emotions were, were intense. And they were wide ranging. So there was, you know, there was a lot of emotion at the time."
Moving Forward with Simon and Her Ex
As she continues to move on with Simon and their son, Lauren confirmed she is in a good place with her ex. The duo share son Adam and have worked out a good co-parenting routine. Lauren admitted she tried her best to ensure that her first son, Adam, wasn't affected by the split, confessing it "wasn't a great situation at all." She said: "It was terrible, in fact. But you know, but, but I always really, really, really tried and my ex husband as well, I mean, we always tried to put Adam first."
