Former teen heartthrob Christopher Atkins, 65, and fellow 80s sweetheart Kristy McNichol, 63, are set to reunite at the Fanboy Expo in Knoxville, Tennessee, from July 10-12. The co-stars from the 1982 film The Pirate Movie will appear together at the ComicCon convention centre, delighting fans of the decade.
McNichol, who began her career at age 14 on the series Family in 1976, retired from acting in 2001. She has since lived a private life with her husband David Birney and three children. In a 2001 interview with Woman's World, she revealed she left the show Empty Nest due to manic depression, now more commonly called bipolar disorder.
Atkins, best known for his role alongside Brooke Shields in The Blue Lagoon (1980), also appeared on Dallas and reunited with Shields on Suddenly Susan. An avid outdoorsman, he recently shared an Instagram photo from the woods, expressing excitement for the upcoming event.
Fans have expressed enthusiasm online, with one commenting on Atkins' photo: 'Loved the movie wish I could be there! Great photo of you!' The reunion marks a rare public appearance for both stars, who have largely stepped away from the spotlight.
