Hollywood icon Kevin Costner has given a candid and poignant interview, revealing the profound sense of loss he feels during the holiday season as his once large, blended family is no longer together under one roof.
A Bachelor's Festive Struggle
The 70-year-old actor spoke to Us Weekly on Tuesday, admitting that his new life as a single man comes with particular challenges at this time of year. "I'm a bachelor, so I kind of miss those, like, really cute things to do," Costner confessed. He elaborated that he now has to work "especially hard" to create the magical memories for his seven children that he feels are so important for them to cherish.
Costner noted a distinct shift in family dynamics as his children have grown older. "I think when they were younger, there were things that were more repetitive," he reflected. "Now you're just fighting to get them home from college... Just getting together! So, I do the best I can to make it as warm as I can." This heartfelt admission highlights the universal struggle of parents with adult children striving to maintain family traditions.
A Song for the Heavy-Hearted
The timing of his emotional disclosure is particularly significant, coming less than a month after his second ex-wife, Christine Baumgartner, remarried. The former couple's divorce was finalised in 2024 after nearly 19 years of marriage. As part of their settlement, Costner pays Baumgartner $63,000 per month in child support for their three children: 18-year-old son Cayden, 16-year-old son Hayes, and 15-year-old daughter Grace.
On October 18, the 51-year-old philanthropist wed financier Josh Connor at the Santa Ynez Ranch in California, surrounded by approximately 100 guests.
Perhaps channelling these complex emotions, Costner unveiled the music video for his 202 single, Find Your Way, on Wednesday. In a moving post on Facebook, the Modern West frontman acknowledged that he knows "all too well how hard the holidays can be for a lot of us," despite the season being "supposed to be the happiest time of year."
He wrote of the pain of "missing loved ones we've lost" and "finding it hard to be joyful when your world feels heavy." Offering solace to others who may be struggling, he added, "If you're feeling closer to the darkness than the light this year, this song is our prayer for you."
