Kelly Clarkson has decided to step back from her career following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who died from skin cancer at age 48. The singer, 43, is prioritising time with their two children, River Rose, 11, and Remy, nine.
A source told UsWeekly that the situation has been 'draining, exhausting, emotional and devastating'. The insider noted that Clarkson, known for her talk show, had been making her schedule available for the children to visit their father. 'Her kids come first, and she will find a way,' the source added.
Clarkson, who rose to fame as the first winner of American Idol, has postponed her Las Vegas residency to be fully present for her children. In an Instagram post, she wrote: 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.'
The insider said Clarkson 'loves' her career but noted that 'nothing compares to a situation' like this. She is expected to return to her NBC talk show in the fall.
Brandon Blackstock, a talent manager who worked with Blake Shelton, was married to Clarkson from 2013 to 2022. He had been battling cancer for over three years. A family statement asked for privacy during this difficult time.
