Nicole Kidman has revealed a surprising insecurity that has followed her throughout her career: her height. In a candid interview on the 'Radio Times' podcast, the 56-year-old actress admitted to lying about her height to feel more comfortable.
Kidman recalled being teased as a child, called 'Stalky' and asked 'How's the air up there?' This left a lasting impact, leading her to downplay her true height. 'I will say I'm 5 ft 10 ½ in when I'm really 5 ft 11 in,' she confessed.
The actress also shared the challenges of red carpet events, where she is often sent high heels. 'I'm just going to be the tallest person, the giraffe,' she said. Her height has also caused physical issues, including knee problems.
Early in her career, Kidman was warned that her height could be a barrier. She recalled being measured during an audition for Annie and feeling 'mortified' for being above the height cutoff. 'You won't have a career. You're too tall,' she was told.
Despite these challenges, Kidman has achieved great success, winning an Academy Award, a BAFTA, and multiple Golden Globes. She now advises her daughters to focus on inner resilience. 'That's the superpower, really,' she said.
