Nicole Kidman has revealed that her teenage daughters have developed a protective 'armour' to deal with the pressures of growing up in the public eye. The Australian actor, who shares Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, with husband Keith Urban, made the comments during a conversation with Ariana Grande for Interview Magazine.
Kidman reflected on the scrutiny that comes with fame, telling Grande: “I’m raising teenage girls right now, and it’s fascinating. I think they have an armour that we didn’t get or that I certainly didn’t get, because there was no social media.” She added that her daughters “don’t take a lot of things personally. They shrug it off.”
The Oscar-winning actor also discussed the challenges of fame, saying: “You’re very young, and then suddenly you’re put into this fishbowl and everything is dissected. It starts to get very, very difficult, and then you overthink it and then you get scared and then you get hurt.” Kidman also has two older children, Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Grande, who stars in the upcoming film Wicked: For Good, agreed that fame can be exhausting, but noted that she sometimes prefers to speak her mind rather than always taking the “spiritually enlightened route”. Kidman encouraged Grande to follow her instincts.
Earlier this year, Sunday Rose walked the runway for Miu Miu during Paris Fashion Week, marking her second appearance for the brand after her debut in October 2023.
