Katie Piper's Mother's Day A&E Trip: 'Blind in One Eye' Led to Accident

Katie Piper has revealed she spent Mother's Day in A&E after slicing her arm open during a family meal. The 35-year-old mother-of-two shared photos of her bandaged arm on Instagram, explaining she needed five stitches to close the wound.

Piper, who is blind in one eye as a result of a sulphuric acid attack in 2008, said she did not see a drinking glass beside her and accidentally slammed her arm into it. 'The downside of being blind in one eye is no peripheral vision,' she wrote.

Despite the mishap, Piper expressed gratitude that it was her left hand, allowing her to still use her phone. She praised NHS staff for their kindness, adding, 'We are so lucky to have access to free medical care when we need it.'

Earlier in the day, Piper had enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day with her husband Richard Sutton and their daughters Belle, five, and Penelope, 16 months, including meals with family and in-laws.

Piper has undergone more than 200 surgeries since the acid attack, which also caused severe facial burns. She continues to require regular treatment.
