Met Gala 2025: Beauty Expert Reveals Top Makeup and Hair Trends from Fashion's Biggest Night

The 2025 Met Gala saw a revival of Black dandyism, with a star-studded blue carpet full of fashion. While clothing took the spotlight, there were plenty of innovations in makeup, hair, and skincare. The theme, inspired by the Costume Institute exhibit 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', led to sculpted complexions, sweeping black eyeliner, and facial jewellery on stars like Lupita Nyong'o and Diana Ross.

Hats were a central feature for many, including Zendaya, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Jennie Kim, but there was still immaculate hair design with masculine quiffs, slick-backs, and intricately laid edges. Beauty brands were out in full force: Coleman Domingo had flawless skin thanks to Charlotte Tilbury skincare; Simone Biles unveiled a silky-sleek flicky bob styled with K18 hair products; and Sydney Sweeney executed a perfect cheek flush with Armani beauty.

Rihanna's low pony, created by hair stylist Yusef Williams, caught attention, along with her Fenty beauty look. Kim Kardashian extended her crocodile leather sheen to her complexion with highlights from Makeup by Mario, while her old Hollywood curls cascaded down her back. Zendaya, obscured by a hat, executed a makeup masterclass with MUA Ernesto Casillas using Charlotte Tilbury products.

Doja Cat bucked the trend with lilac eyeshadow up to her brow bone, thick liquid liner, and a bold red pout, using Pat McGrath Labs products. Her afro was styled to mimic an Edwardian hat with lighter sections creating the illusion of frills. The night showcased a blend of sophistication and innovation, with beauty taking centre stage alongside fashion.
