Justin Bieber Reveals Past Drug Abuse and Recovery Journey

Justin Bieber has opened up about his past drug addiction in his new docuseries, 'Seasons', admitting that his substance abuse became so severe that his security would check his pulse at night. The 25-year-old singer confessed that his downward spiral began at the age of 13, when he started using a codeine-based cocktail, MDMA, and mushrooms to cope with the pressures of fame.

Bieber described his addiction as 'scary' and 'serious', stating that he would smoke weed, pop pills, and take hard drugs as soon as he woke up. He feared that his dependence on drugs would kill him, as he continued to binge on ecstasy and hallucinogenic mushrooms daily. 'My security were coming in at night to check my pulse. People don’t know how serious it got. It was legit crazy, scary,' he said.

Now sober, Bieber is focusing on his health and recovery. He sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber, which he says helps with his anxiety by increasing oxygen flow to the brain. He also receives NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) infusions through an IV drip to repair the pleasure centres of his brain, which were damaged by drug use. His wife, Hailey Bieber, explained that NAD helps balance the brain's pleasure centres for those recovering from drug addiction.

Bieber's journey to sobriety began when he felt like he was dying. He now takes anti-depressants and tries to take care of his body instead of abusing it. The docuseries offers an honest glimpse into his life, including his struggles with anxiety, stress, and depression, as well as his work with a brain disorder specialist.
