Jessie Cave Engaged After Secret Split and 'Cancellation' Ordeal

Harry Potter star Jessie Cave has announced her engagement to comedian Alfie Brown, months after the couple secretly split. The actress, who played Lavender Brown in the film franchise, shared the news on Instagram, revealing that Brown proposed as she showed off her engagement ring.

Cave wrote: '12 years and 4 kids later …. It’s getting serious!!!' The couple first met in 2012 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and began dating two years later after a mutual friend set them up. They have four children together, born between 2014 and 2021.

The engagement comes after a difficult period for the couple. In 2023, Brown was 'cancelled' after old footage emerged of him using a racist slur in 2015, for which he later apologised. Cave described the aftermath as 'awful', saying it affected both their careers and self-confidence. The couple briefly separated last year before reconciling.

Cave has been open about the challenges, posting on Instagram in December about watching Brown 'hide away and overthink, lose himself' and lose not only his career but also his father and close friend. She said she stood by him and would 'stand by him forever'.

Now, things are looking up. Brown's comedy special 'The Last Cancelled Comedian' is available on YouTube, and Cave says 'everything is much better now' and they are 'close to happy'. Fans have flooded the couple with congratulations on their engagement.
