Jessica Simpson reveals confronting and forgiving childhood abuser

Jessica Simpson has opened up further about the sexual abuse she suffered as a child, revealing she confronted and forgave her abuser eight years ago. The 40-year-old singer and actress spoke on Katherine Schwarzenegger's podcast 'The Gift of Forgiveness', describing the encounter with the family friend who abused her.

Simpson said she told the woman: 'I just want you to know that I forgive you and I don’t really care to be around you that much ever again, but I do want you to know that I know what happened between us and I’m not gonna live in denial about it.' She expressed sympathy for her abuser, who she said was also being abused by an older boy.

The star first detailed the abuse in her memoir 'Open Book', released earlier this year. She wrote that it began when she was around six years old and shared a bed with the daughter of a family friend. Simpson told her parents about the abuse when she was 12, but the family did not discuss it further at the time.

In a previous interview, Simpson said becoming a mother motivated her to speak out. She has three children with husband Eric Johnson: daughters Maxwell, seven, and Birdie, 10 months, and son Ace, six.
