Kerry Katona has criticised Jess Wright and her family over comments made on their podcast about thong bikinis, urging women to 'embrace your body'. The 45-year-old star reacted in her new! magazine column to the episode of Wright At Home, where Jess, her mother Carol, and sister Natalya branded the swimwear as 'gross' and 'unsexy'.
The trio later apologised on Instagram, stating: 'We've listened, we hear you and we want to say sorry. Our judgement was wrong and we take full accountability and will be better moving forward.' However, the apology came after widespread backlash, with some listeners calling the remarks 'degrading' towards women.
In her column, Kerry said: 'It's another case of women slagging women off – and I think it's wrong. I don't see the problem with wearing them – I do! I don't want to get tan marks on my a**e! The trio have since apologised, but my message is: if you want to, wear the thong – embrace your body!'
The podcast episode, titled 'Should Thongs Be Allowed At The Beach?', featured Jess stating she 'can't stand' the trend, while Natalya suggested women should wear a sarong when bending over. Carol added that such swimwear wasn't 'sexy for men to look at', and Jess claimed her husband agreed that women should 'put it away and leave something to the imagination'.
Social media users were divided, with some supporting the apology and others defending the Wrights' right to an opinion. One comment read: 'People are allowed to change their minds, it isn't illegal, nor is having an opinion.' Another said: 'It's disgusting women still have to deal with other women tearing them down for their clothing choices.'
