Holly Hagan Names Baby Girl in Tribute to Late Sister Darci

Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan has revealed that her newborn daughter's name is a touching tribute to her late sister, Darci Rose Gibson, who died suddenly last year at the age of 19. Darci passed away from multiple organ failure following an accidental MDMA overdose while on a night out in Manchester.

Holly, 33, and her husband, footballer Jacob Blyth, have named their baby girl Madison-Darci. The couple shared a photo on social media of their newborn wearing a frilly white babygro with the name embroidered across her tummy in pink letters, along with a large matching bow on her head. Holly captioned the post simply with 'Madison-Darci' and a string of emojis, including a butterfly, sparkles, and a white love heart. In another post on her Instagram story, the proud mother added: 'Welcome to the world baby girl.'

Holly and Jacob, who married in 2022, also have a son named Alpha-Jax, born in June 2023. Friends and fellow reality stars were quick to praise the name choice. Sophie Kaseai wrote: 'The most amazing precious little girl. Her name is everything and we know Darci will always be watching over. I'm so proud of you both and I can't wait to meet her.' Charlotte Crosby added: 'Beautiful just so beautiful! Darci is proud as punch watching over you all. I can't wait to meet her.' Charlotte Dawson commented: 'Omg she's so so beautiful. Love her name so much so special xxxx your Darci will be looking down on you all with so much love and pride.' Nathan Henry also expressed excitement, saying: 'I can't wait to meet her. She's so precious.'

Tragic Loss of Darci Rose Gibson

Holly confirmed the devastating death of her half-sister late last year, describing the experience as feeling 'immeasurable grief and sadness'. She expressed being 'forever grateful' to the emergency services in Manchester who attempted to save Darci's life. The 19-year-old died after a night out at Manchester's Warehouse Project, where it is understood she mixed crystal MDMA into her drink, leading to an accidental drug overdose. She was rushed to the hospital suffering a cardiac arrest.

Holly woke in the middle of the night to 130 missed calls and a text from her mother urging her to get to Manchester Royal Infirmary. Upon arrival, Darci was lying in a hospital bed covered in tubes and wires, with blood coming from her mouth and nose, and her eyes taped shut. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Holly said: 'This will sound awful, but in a way, I can't say glad, but it was a better option than there being some signs of life and for her to come out of that in a way that wouldn't have been her, and she wouldn't have any quality of life. That would have been so unbelievably difficult for everyone. It being so final, there was nothing else anybody could do, it was closure.'

Holly revealed that her sister was '100% brain-dead', but the family was able to say their goodbyes and even record her heartbeat as a keepsake. Two days after Darci's funeral, Holly attempted to share an update but was quickly overcome with emotion, writing: 'I hope we did you proud today, baby girl. We all miss and love you so much.'

Thankfully, Holly had told Darci she was expecting in their last messages to each other, with her sister delighted and 'wanting to cry'. The touching tribute through her daughter's name ensures that Darci's memory will live on.
