Television presenter Helen Skelton has declared she is "big on saying yes" to life's opportunities, embracing a joyful chaos both at work and at home. The former Blue Peter host, now 42, gave a remarkably candid interview to Prima magazine, reflecting on two decades in the spotlight, motherhood, and her close friendship with Morning Live co-host Gethin Jones.
Embracing Chaos and Saying Yes to Life
Helen Skelton's philosophy is shaped by personal loss. "I've lost family really young – in their 20s – so I don't take anything for granted," she revealed. This perspective fuels her desire to seize the day. "I'm big on saying yes – go for lunch, go away for the weekend, stay up late, have the pizza," she explained, contrasting this with typical New Year resolutions.
She has fully accepted her own brand of organised chaos. "My house is chaos, my car's a tip, I'm probably going to be late," she said cheerfully. "I'll turn up to a kid's birthday party without the present wrapped and when my friends come to dinner, they bring their own food. I'm chaotic, but I'm great fun!"
Setting the Record Straight on Gethin Jones
The interview inevitably turned to speculation about her relationship with fellow presenter Gethin Jones. Rumours were reignited in October 2025 after a behind-the-scenes Instagram video showed the pair looking close, following reports of a spa date in June and a joint red carpet appearance.
Skelton addressed their bond directly, using the 'F' word: friendship. "I've been friends with [presenters] Michelle and Gethin for 25 years," she stated. "Geth was on Blue Peter before me, so we've always crossed paths... We're such good mates that sometimes we forget we're on air!" While she affectionately calls him 'Geth', she made it clear their connection is a deep, longstanding professional friendship.
Motherhood, Work, and Looking Forward
Juggling a thriving TV career—including BBC Morning Live and Channel 5's Yorkshire Great and Small with Dan Walker—with raising her three children, Elsie, Ernie, and Louis, is a challenge she relishes. Her children, whom she shares with ex-husband Richie Myler, are now proud of her work. "My eldest [Ernie, 10] is gutted every year that I can't do Strictly," she shared.
Despite enjoying motherhood immensely, Skelton confirmed her family is complete. "I would have had more kids until this stage... But I'm really conscious I'm at that stage where they all really want me, and I want to be there for them all," she explained.
On the topic of her youthful appearance, often noted by fans, she insists there's no elaborate secret. "I'm boring when it comes to beauty. I just wash my face and put on moisturiser. I sometimes have a bit of Botox," she admitted, adding that her hectic lifestyle leaves no time to overthink. "The last time I went to the National Television Awards, I was getting my dress on in the car."
As she heads into 2026, Helen Skelton's mantra remains one of joyful acceptance. Whether it's broadcasting, beauty, or boyfriends, she is determined to live life to the fullest, chaos and all.
