Harlan Coben, the celebrated crime author known for his gripping novels and successful screen adaptations, has quietly released a new series on ITVX. Titled Harlan Coben's Final Twist, this marks his first venture into true-crime television, shifting from his usual fictional narratives to real-life mysteries.
From Fiction to Reality
Coben has built his reputation on crafting compelling crime novels that have become Netflix sensations, including Run Away starring James Nesbitt, Fool Me Once featuring Michelle Keegan, Joanna Lumley, and Richard Armitage, as well as Safe, Stay Close, and The Stranger. His books have sold over 100 million copies worldwide. His latest Netflix adaptation, I Will Find You, based on his 2023 novel, arrives on June 18. The series follows David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), a man imprisoned for killing his son, who discovers evidence suggesting his child may still be alive.
Final Twist: A True-Crime Exploration
Harlan Coben's Final Twist spans five episodes, with Coben guiding audiences through genuine mysteries instead of invented ones. A synopsis states: "Known for his twisting narratives and intricate plots, Harlan will guide audiences through gripping tales of murder and high-profile crimes. Each story is meticulously unravelled to reveal hidden truths. With exclusive interviews and never-before-seen archival materials, the series will provide an in-depth look at stories where nothing is as it seems."
The opening episode examines the brutal murder of Billy and Billie Jean in their own home. The second episode, titled Gambler's Debt, delves into the death of Anna Mae, a successful businesswoman found stabbed inside her undisturbed property.
Release and Future
The series originally launched in the United States in January on CBS and has already been commissioned for a second season. Harlan Coben's Final Twist dropped in full on ITVX on Tuesday, June 16.
