Grantchester fans are feeling emotional after star Robson Green shared a poignant reminder that the latest series marks "the beginning of the end" for the beloved ITV crime drama. The actor, who plays Detective Inspector Geordie Keating, took to Instagram to announce that the show's 11th and final series has begun airing in the United States.
Robson Green's Emotional Announcement
Sharing an image of himself in character alongside co-star Rishi Nair, who portrays vicar Alphy Kottaram, Robson Green wrote: "It's the beginning of the end. The final season of Grantchester lands across the pond in the US. Grantchester.......... A quiet, idyllic, peaceful and quintessentially English village that has a meadow and a beautiful river. Perfect for picnics and murder! It's the Final Season and it's the best one yet!"
Fan Reactions: Devastation and Disbelief
The news has left fans dismayed, with many expressing their heartbreak on social media. One fan lamented: "Why must it end? All the good stuff goes and we get left with crappy reality shows!" Another wrote: "Nooooooo!" accompanied by a crying emoji, adding: "At least we've got a little bit longer to wait until it airs in the UK and pretend it's not the end."
A third viewer said: "I haaaaate that Grantchester is ending. It feels like you guys are on such a roll with storylines and the chemistry between all of you. We love you!!" Several people admitted they were "not ready" to say farewell to the television favourite. "Gutted," one remarked, while another said: "I don't want this to end."
One disappointed viewer exclaimed: "Oh no!!! This is one of THE BEST programmes on TV, please don’t let this be the last series." Another person commented: "I’m a mess. So happy and yet sad this is the final season. Best of the best!!!"
The End of an Era for ITV Drama
Grantchester, which first aired in 2014, follows the detective as he investigates crimes in the picturesque village of Grantchester, near Cambridge, set against the backdrop of the 1950s and 1960s. It was confirmed last year that the series would conclude after its 11th season. However, an exact air date for the final series in the UK has not yet been announced.
Polly Hill, ITV's director of drama, and Callum Dziedzic, drama commissioner at ITV, previously stated: "This final series marks the end of a golden chapter for ITV drama, and we know audiences will treasure this last summer in Grantchester as much as we will."
Grantchester airs on ITV.
