Grantchester Fans Heartbroken Over Robson Green's Bittersweet Final Season Update
Grantchester Fans Emotional Over Final Season News

Grantchester fans were left heartbroken after Robson Green shared a poignant message about the series. The ITV crime drama, which sees the actor play Detective Inspector Geordie Keating, is set to conclude following its 11th series. The actor posted a bittersweet message on Instagram, reminding fans that the end of the show is near.

Sharing an image of himself in character beside co-star Rishi Nair, who portrays vicar Alphy Kottaram, Robson told fans that the programme's final run had commenced in the US. "It's the beginning of the end," he wrote. "The final season of Grantchester lands across the pond in the US. Grantchester... A quiet, idyllic, peaceful and quintessentially English village that has a meadow and a beautiful river. Perfect for picnics and murder! It's the Final Season and it's the best one yet!"

Fans were gutted, with one viewer questioning: "Why must it end? All the good stuff goes and we get left with crappy reality shows!" Another responded: "Nooooooo! At least we've got a little bit longer to wait until it airs in the UK and pretend it's not the end."

"I haaaaate that Grantchester is ending," declared another fan. "It feels like you guys are on such a roll with storylines and the chemistry between all of you. We love you!!" Many viewers admitted they were "not ready" to bid farewell to the television favourite. "Gutted," one remarked, while another lamented: "I don't want this to end."

"Oh no!!!" exclaimed one deflated viewer. "This is one of THE BEST programmes on TV, please don't let this be the last series." Another fan wrote: "I'm a mess. So happy and yet sad this is the final season. Best of the best!!!"

The series, which follows the detective solving crimes in the Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester during the 1950s and 60s, launched in 2014. It was confirmed last year that it would conclude after its 11th series. The final season's UK air date, however, has yet to be announced. Polly Hill, ITV's director of drama, and Callum Dziedzic, drama commissioner at ITV, said at the time: "This final series marks the end of a golden chapter for ITV drama, and we know audiences will treasure this last summer in Grantchester as much as we will." Grantchester broadcasts on ITV.
