A grandmother has shared how she got petty revenge on holidaymakers who were hogging sunbeds at her resort in Tenerife, and she has no regrets about the incident. Rachael Rogers, who cannot stand it when people reserve sunbeds and then don't return to them for the rest of the day, admitted on Good Morning Britain that she barely sits around the pool, preferring to do other activities while away.
However, when she tried to sit around the pool to read in the shade at 4pm, she was faced with a sea of identical towels and unused beds. This prompted her to take action, saying she wanted to give them a "little surprise" when they eventually returned.
Viral TikTok Video Sparks Debate
On TikTok, she fumed: "All week the same people would bag their spot by the pool. So today we decided to give them a little surprise and take them. All you at the Mediterranean Palace in Tenerife, yes, it was us."
She wasn't bothered about people finding out she had been removing the generic towels from sunbeds either, proudly posting a video of her antics, which gained over 61,000 likes. In the video, wearing a bright pink dress with a smirk on her face, Rachael could be seen removing towels from sunbeds where someone hadn't come back for hours.
Over the top of the video, she wrote: "Leaving the dirty pool hoggers a little surprise when they come back down," followed by a crying with laughter emoji.
Holiday Etiquette Under Fire
It is well-known that many people put a towel down first thing in the morning and then go about their daily business to save themselves scrambling for a place at the pool later that day. However, people are fast getting furious with holidaymakers who behave in such a way, branding them as selfish. Some say that it is acceptable to put a towel down first thing in the morning, go for breakfast, and then return to the pool.
But if you are hogging that bed all day and leaving the hotel premises in the hopes that your towel will still be there later, it may be a bit risky if someone like Rachael is around.
Mixed Reactions in Comments
In the comments, one person fumed: "What annoys me is they don’t even come down to the pool when it opens, they come at 2pm or something, so those sunbeds are unusable all day for others."
A second added: "May your bed always be soft and your beer cold," saying that she was a legend for doing the job of a staff member.
A third wrote: "It’s first come, first served, not first reserve, first gets, so well done lol. It’s annoying when you wanna spend some time at the pool in the morning before starting your day and going out and doing something, but your chair is somewhere really far where you cannot keep an eye out for your belongings."
However, not everyone agreed with what she was doing, labelling her as "petty" and saying that there were "plenty of other beds" that people could use if they wanted to. "What a way to spend your holiday," someone seethed.
