Gorka Marquez has joked that he fears his partner, Gemma Atkinson, has “anger issues” after she lost her temper with an impatient driver. The couple, who met on Strictly Come Dancing and have two children together, Mia and Thiago, discussed the incident on a recent episode of their podcast.
Supermarket car park standoff
Gemma said the incident took place in a supermarket car park, where two elderly pedestrians were trying to cross in front of her car. Meanwhile, a second car was reversing ahead of them, meaning Gemma could not move and was waiting for the pair to pass.
A smaller car behind Gemma was apparently unable to see the pedestrians, so the driver decided to beep their horn. Recalling the moment on the Lost In Translation Podcast, Gemma said: “The car behind me was quite a small car, couldn’t see in front of me. All they could see was I wasn’t moving, so they beeped their horn, didn't they? And I said, ‘I don’t know what they want me to do; I can’t go anywhere’.”
Confrontation and apology
After a second beep, Gemma said she was getting angry and asked Gorka: “What’s their f*****g problem?” A third beep followed, which Gemma claimed lasted about “six seconds”. One of the pedestrians then looked at her as though she was the one beeping, and Gemma decided she was “not having it”.
She continued: “So I opened my car door, went out, and I said, 'F*****g wait’. I says, 'There’s people in front of me and a car. I said, 'F*****g wait; have a bit of f*****g patience. ‘There’s people in front of me and a vehicle reversing so f*****g wait’.”
Gorka then imitated Gemma’s reaction, spinning in his seat to confront an imaginary driver through the window. As he did so, he knocked the microphone around on its stand, prompting Gemma to laugh and say the professional dancer had “broke the set”.
Gorka's 'anger management' quip
Gorka jumped in, saying: “Anyway, Gemma, I think you have anger issues.” Gemma confessed that Gorka had expressed the same concern to her in the car, adding: “And he just went, ‘Are you okay? You have anger issues’.”
She apologised when she realised the pensioners had got past, saying: “Oh, Sorry, I didn’t see them.” Gemma noted that this was the “point”, claiming the woman had not seen the pedestrians and instead “assumed” and was “beeping your horn up my a**e” for seven seconds. Laughing, Gemma added that Gorka had asked her if she needed “anger management” in the aftermath of her fury.
