Gemma Atkinson has declared she will never marry her long-term partner Gorka Marquez, despite being engaged for five years. The couple, who met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 and have two children together, made the revelation on their podcast Lost In Translation.
Atkinson stated bluntly: 'I ain't getting married to him. No chance.' Marquez echoed her sentiments, saying: 'I don't think I want to get married.' The dancer argued that marriage is 'just for a legal thing', adding: 'We are fine like this, we have two children, marriage is just a document.'
Atkinson cited the high divorce rate among couples she knows as a reason for her stance, noting: 'Everyone I know who has got married has ended up getting divorced, apart from my sister.' She admitted she had considered marriage only for the sake of their children, particularly regarding wills and inheritance.
The couple's discussion also touched on domestic tensions, with Atkinson accusing Marquez of being 'overly obsessive' about housework after he returned from a trip to New York. She described him acting 'like an inspector doing a check on a tenant' and admitted muttering 'shut the f*** up Gorka' under her breath.
Atkinson and Marquez have been together since 2017 and are parents to daughter Mia, six, and son Thiago, two. They have been engaged since 2019 but show no signs of planning a wedding.
