Famous Social Media Dog 'Served Up' in Chinese Restaurant After Abduction
A beloved border collie who rose to fame on Chinese social media has allegedly been killed and served up in a restaurant after being kidnapped from a farm. The dog, named Chutou, belonged to influencer Guo, who had amassed over 1.5 million followers on Douyin, China's version of TikTok. The pair had become internet sensations after videos showed Chutou guarding Guo's tent during their travels across the country.
Guo recently left Chutou with his parents while he embarked on a solo trip to Georgia. However, on May 11, surveillance footage captured two strangers taking the dog from the farm and fleeing on an e-bike. Guo spent 15 days tracking down the alleged dognapper and reportedly offered £1,100 (10,000 yuan) for Chutou's safe return. The suspect claimed he mistook the dog for a stray, but Guo dismissed this, noting that Chutou was wearing a collar and a GPS tracker at the time of the abduction.
According to local reports, the dog was allegedly killed and its meat served in a nearby restaurant. The incident has sparked outrage among netizens, with many calling for justice. Guo has vowed to pursue legal action and has urged authorities to investigate the case thoroughly. The story has reignited debates about pet safety and the treatment of animals in China.
