Emmerdale Star Ryan Hawley Issues Warning Over New 'Robron' Challenge
Emmerdale actor Ryan Hawley has issued a stark warning that the beloved couple Robron will face a significant new test on the ITV soap, following the confirmed return of Robert's ex, Kev Townsend. This development comes just days after show bosses announced Kev's comeback, sparking speculation about potential drama ahead for the fan-favourite pair.
Kev Townsend's Return Confirmed by Popular Demand
Last week, Emmerdale producers confirmed that Kev Townsend, portrayed by actor Chris Coghill, would be making a highly anticipated return to the show. Emmerdale Producer Laura Shaw explained the decision, stating, "Both Chris and the character of Kev made a massive impact on the show last year. Chris is most definitely back by popular demand."
Shaw elaborated on the narrative implications, noting, "With Kev’s son, Lewis, in the village still unaware of who his father is, it's safe to say that there’s a lot of unfinished business and drama ahead." This sets the stage for heightened tensions and emotional conflicts within the Emmerdale community.
Chris Coghill's Enthusiasm for the Role
Chris Coghill expressed his excitement about returning to the role, saying, "I’m really pleased to be returning to Emmerdale, I had a brilliant time last year. Kev is a complex character that I love playing. He has psychopathic tendencies but also an energy and vulnerability that I think makes him pretty unique. I’m properly looking forward to getting back at it."
This complexity suggests that Kev's reappearance will not be straightforward, potentially bringing unpredictable dynamics to the village and specifically to Robert Sugden's life.
Ryan Hawley on Robron's Strength and Upcoming Tests
When questioned about whether Robert and Aaron, collectively known as Robron, are stronger now than in the past, Ryan Hawley affirmed, "They are stronger." However, he cautioned that their relationship is poised for new challenges.
Hawley explained, "I think that their relationship is going to be tested by the things that are happening with the farm and certainly with Moira, that's a huge obstacle for them. I don't know how they'll navigate that." In upcoming scenes, Robert and Aaron will take on detective roles, seeking new evidence to clear Moira, adding another layer of strain to their partnership.
On-Set Dynamics and Future Hopes
Reflecting on filming the new scenes with co-star Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle, Hawley shared, "It was fun. We got to go to a location, a really cool location. I hope it looks good on the cameras. It was a storage facility with massive shipping containers, which is very different to the kind of backdrop of Emmerdale and the countryside. So yeah, it was lots of fun. And it's always fun when we're on location, because it feels like a field day. Me and Danny have a lot of fun working together."
Looking ahead, Hawley expressed optimism about the future of the Sugden family within the show. He stated, "It feels like the show is building a kind of a foundation for the Sugden family, for hopefully when Victoria returns, and Harry and Aaron. It feels like there's these tribes that are emerging. The Sugdens getting to have Emmerdale farm is really cool. I feel very, very honoured and blessed to have that."
Hawley's Mixed Feelings on Chris Coghill's Return
With Chris Coghill back as Kev, it remains unclear how the former inmate will integrate with the village residents. Ryan Hawley, however, shared his personal thoughts on the return, initially joking, "I don't really particularly like Chris, so I'm not looking forward to coming back. I think they're making a mistake, but it's not my business to say!" before turning serious.
He added sincerely, "I loved working with Chris. I felt very blessed to get to work with him. Just a great actor. Whether or not I'm going to be involved with him much when he comes back, I don't know." This ambiguity hints at potential on-screen interactions that could further test Robron's resilience.
As Emmerdale continues to unfold, viewers can expect a blend of emotional drama, character development, and the inevitable tests that come with Kev Townsend's return, all set against the backdrop of the iconic Yorkshire Dales.
